How Bayside Jiu Jitsu started…

In 2015, Matt began training under Professor Vic Rosati in Acworth, Georgia. At the time, the school was a Gracie Barra academy. Gracie Barra is one of the largest and most successful teams in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu; producing a number of world champions and ADCC veterans. Eventually, however, Professor Vic decided to walk his own path and create his own legacy. In 2018 he founded his own team, Warrior Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Within a few short years, Warrior BJJ became one of Georgia’s top MMA and BJJ academies. It has produced a number of BJJ champions as well as MMA professionals. Professor Vic now oversees Warrior HQ and 4 affiliate gyms that span Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida. Bayside Jiu Jitsu is an official affiliate of Warrior Jiu Jitsu.

In late 2019 Matt and his wife Megan moved to Franklin county, Florida. It was a difficult decision to leave friends, family, and Warrior BJJ HQ. However, Matt and Megan were in love with Franklin county and everything it had to offer. Plus, this move afforded them the opportunity to create their dream business, Bayside Coffee Co.

At the time, the closest BJJ schools were in Tallahassee and Panama City Beach. Matt would occasionally frequent some of these schools, but he knew the long drives and time away from family were not sustainable. Thankfully, he met new friends in Franklin county that either had some prior experience, or were willing to learn! So, he tossed a few mats down in his garage and Bayside Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was born. After almost two years in the “brojo,” word spread and classes grew. He knew he had to search for a new location and get the academy out of his back yard. Under the blessing and mentorship of his professor, Vic Rosati, Matt opened Bayside BJJ’s first public location on Island Drive. In less than a year the student volume grew too large for this location and in November of 2022 Bayside moved to 312 Highway 98 Eastpoint Florida. This location has over 1,100 sqft of mat space, a small weight training area, and room to grow!
